Cellular Jail is one of the chief tourist spots in the Andaman Islands. First opened in 1906 in Port Blair, Andaman this jail is a great place to learn about the history of India and to pay tribute to the fearless freedom fighters. The place is a fiery memorial to the black days of British colonial imposition in India. Cellular or central jail was once identical to the Andaman and “Kalapani” or ‘the black waters’. Isolated from the Indian mainland, this jail was widely known as Kala Pani. The complex houses a museum that chronicles the struggle of Indian freedom fighters.
